It has more than 377 thousand members in 150 countries and is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, to biomedical technology and aerospace. The IEEE has over 860 active standards, but they are best known for developing standards for the computer and electronics industry. Particularly, the IEEE 802 standards for networking are widely followed.
