Glossary of coffee terms
Meaning of body :
Body: How heavy a coffee feels in your mouth—the sense of thickness. Body is the result of the amount of sediment or oil present in the coffee. It is described as light, medium, full, or very full, and will vary depending on the origin of the coffee and the brewing method. Coffees with a heavier body have more complexity of flavor. Body is a counterpoint to acidity: The same bean or cup of coffee won’t have both a lot of acidity and a lot of body. To evaluate the body, sip the coffee and let it rest on the tongue before swallowing. Body can also be described as "mouthfeel" -quite literally, how a coffee feels in your mouth. It's an impression of a coffee's weight on your tongue. The best way to determine the degree of body in a coffee is to take a small sip and let it rest a moment on your tongue. Is it medium? Full? Very full? Body describes the depth of flavor. This should be a strong, full, pleasant characteristic.
For the term body may also exist other definitions and meanings, the meaning and definition indicated above are indicative not be used for medical and legal or special purposes.
